The West Bengal Legislative Assembly witnessed significant political unrest as four BJP legislators were suspended. The decision, announced by Speaker Biman Banerjee, has triggered widespread protests both inside and outside the legislative premises. Led by Dipak Burman, Shankar Ghosh, Agnimitra Paul, and Manoj Oraon, the suspended members challenged the removal of certain remarks from the Assembly records.

Reportedly, the atmosphere inside the Assembly was charged, with the accused MLAs vehemently contesting what they termed as an 'attack on dissent.' Their vocal protests were met with intervention from marshals, who physically escorted them out. Outside the Assembly, the tension spilled over, with visuals showing BJP leaders chanting slogans and holding banners against the ruling Trinamool Congress.

The BJP claims this episode is part of a broader pattern of suppression by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's government. BJP leader Amit Malviya has described the situation as akin to an 'undeclared Emergency.' The opposition further alleges that the Leader of Opposition, Suvendu Adhikari, faced intimidation from legislative marshals, heightening accusations of political vendetta against the BJP MLAs.
