The Government of Meghalaya has made a significant stride towards strengthening rural livelihoods by initiating the disbursement of nearly Rs 19 crore to Producer Groups (PGs) under its FOCUS program. This initiative aims to empower grassroots communities by enhancing self-reliance in the state's rural economies.
In a symbolic ceremony held at the Pa Togan Nengminja Sangma Athletic Stadium, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma highlighted the transformative impact of the FOCUS initiative during the foundation stone laying for the Additional Secretariat Complex in Tura. The program, which has benefited over 2.1 lakh rural households, underscores the government's commitment to decentralizing governance and fostering inclusive growth.
A pivotal part of the FOCUS scheme is the promotion of farmer collectivisation into producer groups. These PGs benefit from strategic financial support, aimed at boosting initiatives across sectors like piggery, poultry, and horticulture. So far, over Rs 120 crore has been distributed to more than 22,000 PGs, promoting a robust rural economy.
