The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) commemorates the 50th anniversary of the Emergency period, branding it 'Samvidhan Hatya Divas.' Union Minister Piyush Goyal criticized the Congress, accusing them of attempting to 'crush' the nation's 'soul' by imposing a state of Emergency from June 25, 1975, to March 21, 1977.

Minister Goyal described the Emergency as a 'conspiracy' orchestrated by a power-intoxicated family, alleging it showcased Congress' 'tyrannical' mindset. By invoking Article 352, he claims, democracy was murdered, marking an unforgivable act against humanity. The minister's remarks were shared on social media platform 'X.'

BJP MP Praveen Khandelwal remarked that the remembrance event has become a 'Waterloo' moment for Congress. He reflected on the period's evocative protests, with detainees chanting songs symbolizing democratic resistance. This historical episode underscores the political and civil liberties challenges faced during Prime Minister Indira Gandhi's reign.
