The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has launched the Mobile BSL-3 laboratory, a revolutionary step in tackling outbreaks of high-risk pathogens with rapid response. Developed in collaboration with Klenzaids Contamination Controls Private Limited, the initiative falls under the Pradhan Mantri-Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission and operates under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

Dubbed a 'laboratory on wheels,' this cutting-edge facility marks a critical enhancement in India's outbreak investigation and emergency public health response capabilities. The BSL-3's introduction underscores the nation's commitment to the AtmaNirbhar Bharat initiative, representing a critical philosophy of self-reliant excellence in public health infrastructure. Its combined impact with an expert diagnostic team presents a strategic edge in managing emerging or re-emerging disease outbreak scenarios.

Built on a robust Bharat Benz chassis, the mobile lab complies with current BS VI norms, suitable for extreme environments and classified as a Type-IV Rapid Response Mobile Laboratory per WHO standards. Innovations include an HVAC system with HEPA filters, four meticulously designed work zones, and advanced power systems, disaster-proofing it against unforeseen challenges. The lab was first deployed during Kerala's Nipah virus outbreak, achieving vital milestones in India's epidemiological strategy. (ANI)
