Tragedy Strikes: Teen Allegedly Beaten to Death at Delhi Juvenile Home

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has expressed concern following reports of a 17-year-old boy allegedly beaten to death at a government-run juvenile home in Delhi's Majnu Ka Tila area. On Wednesday, the NHRC took suo motu cognisance of the situation and has called for comprehensive reports from Delhi's Chief Secretary and the Commissioner of Police within three weeks.

The alleged incident, which took place on June 17, reportedly involved a dispute over access to the bathroom, escalating into a violent altercation among the juveniles. The victim, who sustained critical injuries, died shortly after being rushed to the hospital.

In response to what may be a serious violation of human rights, the NHRC has demanded that the submitted reports include essential documents such as the inquest report, post-mortem results, and a magisterial enquiry report to ensure transparency and establish accountability. Meanwhile, police have charged the accused juvenile with murder, while the deceased had been previously charged with attempted murder.
