In a significant stride towards combating drug abuse, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu declared the introduction of a dedicated chapter on drug abuse awareness in the state's school curriculum. This announcement was made during an event commemorating the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. The Chief Minister emphasized the vital role of all societal segments in joining efforts to eradicate drug menace in the state.

Highlighting the vision for a prosperous India, CM Sukhu stressed redirecting youth's energy positively and asserted the government's zero-tolerance policy against drug use and trafficking. The state is resolved to take decisive action against any government personnel involved in the illegal drug trade, reflecting an uncompromising stance on the issue.

The Chief Minister reiterated the commitment to crackdown on drug networks and encouraged youth participation in anti-drug campaigns. A new 100-bed de-addiction center is set to begin construction in Kotla Barog, Sirmaur district, with efforts underway for district-level centers across the state. Additionally, the government is implementing the PIT-NDPS Act, previously stalled by the prior administration. CM Sukhu also honored notable contributors against drug abuse, stressing parental and educational roles in prevention.
