In a tragic turn of events, a stampede during the revered Jagannath Rath Yatra in Puri left at least three people dead and several injured. Odisha's Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan described the incident as 'unfortunate' and confirmed that Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has ordered a detailed inquiry.
The Chief Minister expressed his condolences and announced financial assistance of Rs 25 lakh for the families of each deceased devotee. He also emphasised the importance of ensuring safety and sanctity in future festivals, directing an immediate investigation into any security lapses that may have contributed to the incident.
Following the stampede, which occurred near the Gundicha Temple, top officials were suspended for negligence, while new appointments were made to reinforce administrative responsibilities. The Rath Yatra, a significant event in Odisha, attracts thousands of devotees annually, underscoring the need for stringent safety measures.
