The annual Rath Yatra at the Jagannath Temple witnessed a massive turnout as devotees gathered to partake in the event, which commenced on June 27 and is set to conclude on July 5 with the 'Bahuda Yatra'. Despite a tragic stampede, the spirit of devotion remained strong.
Anita, a devotee who had the privilege to pull the chariot, spoke of her gratitude, reflecting on the protective presence of the divine amidst the chaos. Meanwhile, first-time attendee Deepak Rawat also shared his joy and wished similar experiences for others.
However, the yatra was overshadowed by a stampede that claimed three lives and injured several others. Odisha's Law Minister, Prithiviraj Harichandan, described the incident as 'very unfortunate' and ordered an investigation. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed condolences, announcing ₹25 lakh support for the families of the deceased and vows for preventive actions.
