Mizoram Unites Against Narcotics: A Call for Community and Compassion

The Central Young Mizo Association, in collaboration with the Central Anti-Drugs Squad, executed a Drug Disposal Programme at the Central YMA Hall in Aizawl on Monday, focusing on narcotics seized from March 15 to June 2025. The event was graced by Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma, who attended as the Chief Guest.
The Chief Minister stressed the pressing need for a compassionate, community-driven strategy to tackle Mizoram's drug crisis. He highlighted the necessity of developing robust support systems to aid individuals battling addiction, their families, and their communities. The Chief Minister advocated for rehabilitation homes equipped with skill training and sustainable livelihood opportunities to facilitate the reintegration of individuals into society.
During his address, the Chief Minister also acknowledged the significant contributions of the Young Mizo Association, characterizing their dedication to community welfare as commendable. Chaired by Central YMA President Lalhmachhuana, the event clarified that the narcotics destroyed were part of those seized but not yet transferred to police or excise authorities. A report by Prof. Malsawmliana detailed the seizures, including substantial quantities of Heroin, TicTac tablets, and Methamphetamine, amounting to a total estimated value of Rs 4.29 crore. The Central Anti-Drugs Squad has apprehended 809 individuals involved in drug offenses since March 15, 2025, with various outcomes including counseling, rehabilitation, and handovers to authorities.
