Mizoram CM Calls for Harmony with Refugees Amid Rising Tensions

Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma has called for refugees from Myanmar, Bangladesh, and internally displaced people from Manipur to integrate with locals, urging mutual respect for laws and traditions. He emphasized peaceful co-existence during a state event celebrating the 'Remna Ni', the anniversary of the historic Mizoram Accord.

Addressing concerns about rising crime, allegedly involving the refugee community, Lalduhoma stressed that the actions of a few should not tarnish all. He suggested refugees join local churches and community organizations. The CM highlighted the necessity of engaging with the Young Mizo Association to foster community ties.

The Chief Minister's statements come in the wake of increased refugee arrivals. Myanmar nationals fled post-coup violence, while Bangladeshis arrived after a crackdown on insurgents. Additionally, ethnic violence in Manipur led to Kuki people seeking shelter in the state. The speech underscores the historical context of Mizoram's journey to statehood.
