The World Food Programme (WFP) has issued an urgent warning regarding the dire situation facing Sudanese refugees across four neighboring countries. The organization has indicated that without immediate funding, food aid operations are on the brink of termination within the next couple of months.
Shaun Hughes, WFP's Emergency Coordinator for the Sudan Regional Crisis, highlighted the severity of the situation. 'Unless new funding is secured, all refugees will face assistance cuts in the coming months,' Hughes stated, referring to over four million refugees fleeing from Sudan's ongoing civil war.
In specific countries, such as the Central African Republic, Egypt, Ethiopia, and Libya, WFP's operations are significantly underfunded. Hughes clarified that if current funding levels persist, all aid support could cease within two months, potentially exacerbating malnutrition rates.
