The Himachal Pradesh Public Works Department is grappling with over 580 road blockages across the state as intense rainfall and landslides wreak havoc, according to Minister Vikramaditya Singh. He reported ongoing restoration work in the hardest-hit areas of Mandi and Kullu over the past 24 hours.
With Siraj, Karsog, and Sarkaghat bearing the brunt of the rainfall, pre-stored modular bridges in Dharamshala, Mandi, Kullu, and Shimla are slated for deployment once weather conditions improve. Singh warns residents to limit travel to essential trips only, as district commissioners release local advisories tailored to the developing situation.
Relief efforts are bolstered by State Police, PWD, SDRF, and NDRF teams. Amidst focus on restoration, controversy looms as allegations surface against NHAI officials concerning a building collapse in Shimla. Simultaneously, political tensions rise with criticism of Rajeev Bindal's re-election as the Himachal BJP chief, a move Singh labels undemocratic.
