IndiGo Airlines has announced the appointment of Amitabh Kant, former CEO of NITI Aayog and India's G20 Sherpa, as a Non-Executive Director on its Board of Directors, pending regulatory and shareholder approval. Kant is known for his leadership in initiatives like Make in India, Startup India, and Incredible India.
Kant's background includes spearheading the Aspirational Districts Program and playing a crucial role in shaping India's G20 presidency. IndiGo aims to utilize Kant's expertise to become a global player by 2030, according to Vikram Singh Mehta, Chairman of IndiGo's Board, who praised Kant's experience in managing global-scale projects.
With a career spanning over four decades in the Indian Administrative Service, Kant has held senior roles including Director on the Board of the National Highways Authority of India. He led projects like the expansion of Calicut Airport and the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor. He most recently served as India's G20 Sherpa, advocating reforms in global issues like climate finance and technology.
