Glovo Halts Controversial Heatwave Bonus Amid Union Backlash

International food delivery company Glovo has paused its heatwave bonus scheme for Italian couriers following harsh criticism from labor unions and political figures.
The bonus, calculated in euro cents per delivery and increasing with the temperature, was designed to reward workers enduring extreme conditions. However, unions argue it encouraged couriers to risk their health in hazardous weather.
In response, Glovo announced a national suspension of the bonus during peak heat hours, as Italy faces an early summer heatwave with a red alert issued for 18 cities.
