In a recent address during the Animal Taxonomy Summit-2025, Union Minister of State for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Kirti Vardhan Singh, hailed India as a pioneering force in global biodiversity under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The summit, orchestrated by the Zoological Survey of India (ZSI) in Kolkata, spotlighted India's achievements in scientific research and animal taxonomy conservation.
Minister Singh praised ZSI for its exemplary contribution to documenting over 100,000 native species, echoing Prime Minister Modi's call for embracing 'Panch Pran'—five resolutions for a developed India. He invoked Sage Dattatreya to underline the reverence for knowledge, likening ZSI scientists to modern sages advancing India's faunal understanding.
The summit, marking its third edition, gathered 500 delegates from countries like Ghana, Denmark, the USA, and the UK. Discussions centered on taxonomy, systematics, and faunal diversity. The ZSI published significant works and held a 110-Hour Hackathon to celebrate its 110th anniversary, recognizing scholarly excellence and fostering collaboration in biodiversity efforts.
