EPFO's Swift Processing of Pension Applications: A Landmark Development
The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has efficiently processed 98.5% of applications for pensions on higher wages by July 16, 2025, following the Supreme Court's 2022 ruling. Despite some rejections and pending cases, this reflects a significant improvement due to the amendment of the Employees' Pension Scheme in 2014.

The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has achieved a remarkable milestone by disposing of 98.5% of applications for pensions on higher wages, as informed to Parliament on Monday.
Minister of State for Labour & Employment, Shobha Karandlaje, revealed in a written reply to the Lok Sabha that 4,00,573 demand letters were issued while 11,01,582 applications were rejected, and 21,995 remain pending.
This action by the EPFO aligns with the Supreme Court's decision from November 4, 2022, which upheld the Employees' Pension (Amendment) Scheme of 2014, increasing the pensionable salary cap and providing the option for contributions on actual wages.
