The relentless monsoon rains in Himachal Pradesh have triggered widespread disruption across the state, leading to the blockage of 432 roads, the disablement of 534 power distribution transformers (DTRs), and affecting 197 water supply schemes. According to the latest report released by the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) and the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA), district Mandi has been hit hardest with 260 roads blocked, whereas Kullu has reported the highest number of disrupted DTRs at 123. Water supply issues have been prevalent across several regions, with Kullu and Chamba being notably affected.
The monsoon fury has claimed 135 lives in the state so far—76 deaths are directly attributed to rain-related incidents, while 59 have died in road accidents, as confirmed by SDMA officials. The national highways have also borne the brunt, with NH-02, NH-21, and NH-154 facing disruptions due to landslides and road collapses.
Authorities continue to maintain high alert, deploying emergency services for rapid clearance and restoration operations in the worst-hit areas. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted dry to moderate weather conditions for Himachal Pradesh until July 26. However, a fresh spell of heavy rainfall is expected to commence on July 27, mainly impacting mid and low-hill districts, according to the latest update by IMD Senior Scientist Shobhit Katiyar.
