In a significant bail hearing related to the 2023 Parliament security breach, the Delhi High Court voiced grave concerns over the incident's impact on national security. The court was hearing the case of Manoranjan D, accused of interrupting Parliamentary proceedings using non-toxic smoke canisters.
On December 13, 2023, Manoranjan, along with another protestor, entered the Lok Sabha chamber, while accomplices demonstrated outside, leading to their arrest. The High Court recently granted bail to some involved, with strict conditions including bans on media interactions and travel limitations.
Delhi Police, citing the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, argued against bail, emphasizing risks of interference with witnesses and the investigation. Nevertheless, the defense slammed the UAPA's invocation, branding it an excessive response to dissent.
