ICAR-IIVR Launches WhatsApp Channel to Revolutionize Farmer Outreach

The ICAR-Indian Institute of Vegetable Research (IIVR) has embarked on a digital transformation by launching an official WhatsApp channel, aiming to enhance communication with farmers, scientists, and the public. Named "ICAR-IIVR VARANASI," the channel is designed to deliver timely updates on the institute's advanced vegetable technologies, crop advisories, informational videos, organic products, weather-based suggestions, and government schemes directly to farmers' mobile devices.

In a move that signifies a departure from traditional outreach methods, IIVR embraces social media to ensure faster dissemination of scientific innovations. This platform not only bridges the gap in communication but also enables quick response to farmers' feedback and inquiries. D P Singh, Principal Scientist and Head of Media Cell at IIVR, mentioned that seasonal advisories will be regularly shared, guiding farmers in vegetable crop production, protection, and cost-effective practices, from field preparation to disease and pest management.

Director Rajesh Kumar emphasized that interactions during the recent Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan highlighted the urgent need for efficient information delivery systems. He urged vegetable farmers, Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs), and NGOs to connect with this channel, acknowledging the significant role of social media in modern agricultural communication. "We invite more farmers, agriculture officers, scientists, and aware citizens to join this channel and aid IIVR's mission to transition technology from lab to land," he stated.
