Italy's Visionary Bridge: Reviving Ancient Dreams over the Strait of Messina
The Italian government is set to approve a multibillion-euro bridge linking Sicily to the mainland. Scheduled to start soon, the project revives ancient plans halted in 2013. With a 13.5 billion-euro budget, the bridge is overseen by Webuild and is due for completion in 2032.

The Italian government's imminent approval for a multibillion-euro bridge connecting Sicily with the mainland is expected to breathe life into a longstanding project that dates back to Roman times. Scheduled discussions by the CIPESS economic planning committee could seal the fate of this ambitious venture by August 7.
Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has earmarked 13.5 billion euros for the suspension bridge, set to span 3.6 kilometers across the Strait of Messina. Anticipated approval will unlock initial activities like land acquisition and archaeological assessments, indicating significant progress for a project halted since 2013.
Responsible for constructing the monumental bridge is a consortium led by Italy's Webuild, aiming for completion in 2032. The renewed global interest underscores the project's importance. Webuild CEO Pietro Salini highlighted the world's focus on the Messina Bridge, signaling widespread anticipation for its development.
