In a significant move to support commission agents in Punjab's grain markets, Agriculture Minister Gurmeet Singh Khudian announced the launch of a One-Time Settlement (OTS) scheme on Tuesday. The initiative seeks to alleviate the financial strain of interest and penalties on allotments, potentially benefiting a large number of 'arhtiyas'.

The OTS scheme, introduced by the Punjab Mandi Board, is expected to enhance the financial stability of commission agents, subsequently contributing to the growth of the agricultural sector across the state. This initiative is part of a broader effort led by a Group of Ministers tasked with streamlining the procurement of paddy and other Kharif crops.

During the announcement, 'arhtiyas' highlighted the stagnant payment rates for loading produce in mandis, prompting a demand for an increase. In response, Varinder Kumar Sharma, Director of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, confirmed government approval for the raised rates, with an official notification forthcoming.
