The Central Government has named Border Security Force's Special Director General Sanjay Singhal as the new chief of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). This appointment involves one of the key armed forces under the Ministry of Home Affairs, responsible for safeguarding India's borders with Nepal and Bhutan.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved Sanjay Singhal, a 1993-batch Uttar Pradesh Cadre Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, for the role of Director General of the SSB. Singhal is set to take on this new responsibility starting September 1, 2025, succeeding Amrit Mohan Prasad, who will retire on August 31, 2025.

Singhal will hold the position until his retirement on December 31, 2028, or until any further orders are issued by authorities. The Ministry of Home Affairs proposed his appointment, which has been formally ratified by the Cabinet committee.
