The Odisha government has announced the release of the third instalment of financial assistance amounting to Rs 5,000 under the Subhadra Yojana. Scheduled for August 9, in Koraput district, this instalment aims to benefit over 1 crore women. Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida highlighted the scheme's focus on women empowerment, coinciding with Rakhi Purnima.

Initiated by the BJP government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Subhadra Yojana marks a significant move towards women welfare. Launched on September 17, 2024, the scheme promises Rs 50,000 to eligible women over five years, dispensed in two annual instalments. This financial scheme is strategically aligned with Rakhi Purnima and International Women's Day for disbursement.

Eligibility criteria remain stringent. Women aged 21 to 60 who have filed zero income tax returns or earn below Rs 2.5 lakh annually can apply. Despite previous eliminations due to ineligibility, officials will re-evaluate rejected beneficiaries, ensuring rightful recipients benefit. Additionally, those excluded at age 60 may shift to a social security scheme, further securing their welfare.
