CIL Records Production Drop Amid Monsoon Challenges

State-owned Coal India Ltd (CIL) witnessed a six percent decline in coal production during the April-July period of the current financial year, producing 229.8 million tonnes. This drop is largely attributed to seasonal disruptions typical of the monsoon period, affecting mining activities and transport to power stations.

Compared to the same period last year, when the company managed a production of 244.3 MT, CIL's reduction comes at a time when the government is actively working to increase coal output to curb import reliance. Despite the production dip, Coal Minister G Kishan Reddy assured that there will be no coal shortages in the approaching monsoon season.

The coal ministry reiterated its commitment to enhancing sustainable growth and improving domestic coal supply. As India's leading coal producer, CIL plays a significant role in fueling the country's growth, with ambitious production and offtake targets set for 2025-26.
