In a groundbreaking financial achievement, the Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board Limited (HPSEBL) reported a record profit of Rs 315 crore for the financial year 2024-25, as per a recent release. After years of operating at a loss, this marks the highest profit ever recorded by the Board, attributed to proactive measures under the leadership of Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu.

According to statements from the release, this financial milestone reflects the current state government's dedication to its vision of 'Nai Soch, Naya Himachal.' Facing previous cumulative losses of Rs 3,742 crore by March 2024, the state government's reforms, transparent policies, and financial discipline have steered HPSEBL into profitability.

On assuming office, Chief Minister Sukhu emphasized economic reforms and efficient governance, engaging in comprehensive discussions with officials. He directed public sector entities to operate with professional efficiency, targeting self-reliance. As a result, HPSEBL implemented fiscal discipline, reduced non-essential expenditures, and enhanced revenue, catalyzing this significant financial turnaround.

Additionally, the Board's improved financial status has enabled increased benefits for its employees. For the financial year 2024-25, Rs 368.89 crore has been allocated for gratuity, medical reimbursements, revised pension arrears, and leave encashment, up from Rs 87.56 crore in the previous year. By July 31, 2025, Rs 187.86 crore had already been disbursed, showcasing the government's commitment to employee welfare.

Commending HPSEBL's management and staff, CM Sukhu attributed the success to clear policy execution, honest governance, and a welfare-focused approach. He pledged to continue instituting reforms across public departments to bolster the state's economic strength and enhance public service quality.

Expressing optimism for the future, CM Sukhu projected that with collective effort, HPSEBL would achieve full self-reliance, benefiting employees and the broader populace. He also praised the education reforms that elevated Himachal Pradesh from 21st to 5th in the national rankings, crediting this progress to robust leadership and foresight.
