Sawan, synonymous with the month of Shravan, holds immense significance in the Hindu calendar, dedicated to Lord Shiva. This period is marked by Mondays known as Sawan Somvar, when temples and pilgrimage sites, especially in Uttarakhand, experience a surge of devotees. On the fourth Sawan Somwar, devotees thronged Shiva temples nationwide to offer their prayers.
Mumbai's Babulnath Temple and Uttar Pradesh's Shiv Ganga Temple witnessed a large influx of worshippers during the last Sawan Monday. Similar scenes unfolded at Varanasi's Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple and Prayagraj's Shri Mankameshwar Mahadev Temple. In Ahmedabad, devotees engaged in aarti at Samartheshwar Mahadev Temple as the Sawan observance continued.
In Hindu mythology, Shravan is esteemed as Lord Shiva's favorite month, offering devotees reprieve from woes by worshipping him. Across the nation, Shiva temples resonated with Vedic chants, complemented by conch shells, bells, and hymns, as devotees participated in rituals. This year's Shravan, commencing on July 11, will conclude on August 9.
