Chaitanya Baghel, the son of former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, continues his legal battle as his judicial remand is extended by 14 days by a special PMLA Court in Raipur. This is in connection with the alleged Rs 2,161-crore liquor scam. His lawyer, Advocate Faizal Rizvi, confirmed that the fresh application for remand was filed following the completion of the previous 14-day period, with the new remand date set for August 18.
Arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on July 18, 2025, Chaitanya Baghel is currently under investigation by the Central agency under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). In a significant development, the Supreme Court allowed former CM Bhupesh Baghel and his son to challenge the ongoing probes in the High Court concerning several scams, including the hefty liquor scam.
As Bhupesh Baghel seeks protection from coercive actions like arrest, he finds himself amid legal proceedings from various FIRs related to the state's liquor, Mahadev App, rice milling, DMF, coal, and Uttar Pradesh liquor scams. Justice Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi have permitted his son, Chaitanya, to seek interim bail from the High Court. Bhupesh Baghel claims that investigative agencies such as the ED and CBI have been filing incomplete charge sheets to delay his right to default bail.
