For the second straight day, the Delhi Assembly was engulfed in fervent debates and disruptions over the controversial 'phansi ghar' issue. BJP MLA Gajendra Yadav ignited the controversy by accusing Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal of 'distorting history' and controversially comparing him to historical figures such as Babur, Aurangzeb, and Qutb-ud-din Aibak.
Leader of Opposition Atishi responded robustly, advising BJP members to reference their own ideological figure, Vinayak Damodar Savarkar. Heated debates continued as Minister Kapil Mishra alleged corruption against Kejriwal, leading to loud objections and anti-BJP slogans from AAP MLAs. The chaos prompted Speaker Vijender Gupta to order the removal of Atishi and four other AAP legislators.
Outside the House, Atishi criticized the BJP for politicizing a sensitive historical issue to avoid addressing governance concerns. She suggested forming a committee with historians and archaeologists to genuinely debate the 'phansi ghar'. Atishi also alleged the BJP was evading critical civic issues like law and order, slum demolitions, and rising school fees, highlighting a need for Assembly focus on practical problems.
