In a decisive move to enhance security in preparation for Independence Day, the Punjab Police launched a coordinated cordon and search operation across 213 bus stands statewide on Wednesday. This extensive operation aligns with the government's broader strategy to preserve law and order during national celebrations, under the directive of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann.

A press statement from the police confirmed that this security initiative was simultaneously conducted across all 28 police districts, supervised by Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav and closely monitored by Special DGP (Law and Order) Arpit Shukla. The operation involved senior police officials deploying a substantial force, led by SP-rank officers, at critical locations.

Throughout the operation, police scrutinized 2,224 suspicious individuals, filed three FIRs, and issued 541 traffic challans. Additionally, 16 vehicles were impounded, with many more inspected near bus stands for any suspicious activity. As part of the state's ongoing 'Yudh Nashian De Virudh' anti-drug campaign, which hit its 158th day, police executed raids at 344 sites, resulting in the arrest of 91 drug traffickers and the documentation of 61 new FIRs across Punjab.

The operations resulted in the seizure of significant narcotics, including 1.1 kg of heroin, 20 kg of poppy husk, and 9,122 intoxicant pills. Special DGP Arpit Shukla reported that over 150 police teams with more than 1,000 officers, led by 71 gazetted officers, carried out these anti-drug raids and questioned 366 suspects.

Following the Punjab Government's EDP strategy of Enforcement, De-addiction, and Prevention, police also reached out to individuals struggling with addiction. On the same day, 52 individuals agreed to undergo voluntary de-addiction treatment at certified centers. The Punjab Police reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the state against both security threats and drug challenges, assuring the continuation of their rigorous operations in the lead-up to August 15.

The statewide efforts deliver a strong message that Punjab's law enforcement is on high alert, maintaining zero tolerance for narcotics and any threats to peace and public safety. (ANI)
