In a startling discovery ahead of Independence Day celebrations, Delhi Police recovered two old cartridges during a search operation at the historic Red Fort, sources revealed on Thursday. Alongside the cartridges, officials found a circuit board presumed to be obsolete and possibly associated with past lighting setups at the venue.
While preliminary observations suggest the cartridges are damaged, forensic experts are set to analyze them for further details. The incident has prompted the filing of a First Information Report (FIR) as police delve deeper into the matter.
Compounding the security concerns, authorities suspended seven Delhi Police personnel after they failed to detect a dummy bomb during a routine security drill at the Red Fort. This team, which included constables and head constables, was held accountable for the oversight. As part of security preparations for the August 15 celebrations, daily drills are conducted at the site. A Special Cell team executed a drill dressed in civilian clothes carrying a dummy bomb last Saturday, which went undetected by the deployed security detail, leading to their suspension, according to police statements.
