The committee tasked with reviewing the Minimum Support Price (MSP), chaired by former agriculture secretary Sanjay Agrawal, has convened 45 times, according to Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan's report to the Rajya Sabha on Friday.
Established in July 2022, the committee was formed after the government retracted three contentious farm laws, fulfilling a promise to establish an oversight body. Its mandate includes making the MSP system more effective and transparent, with a focus on giving the Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices (CACP) more autonomy.
Additionally, the committee is addressing topics such as natural farming and crop diversification, aiming for actionable recommendations. The government remains committed to ensuring MSP's advantages reach all farmers, with MSP determined for 22 crops based on CACP and state government recommendations.
