Government's Commitment to Energy Security amid Global Tensions

The government has placed energy security high on its agenda, informing Lok Sabha of its efforts to provide affordable energy to citizens. A multi-pronged strategy is in play, focusing on diverse supply sources, local oil and gas production enhancement, and alternative energy adoption, according to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar.

Amidst inquiries on the impacts of global tensions, particularly the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the government remains vigilant in monitoring geopolitical developments that affect India's national interests. Efforts to mitigate these impacts include diplomatic engagement and strategic energy sourcing decisions based on pricing and availability.

Recent U.S. sanctions on India's petroleum imports have prompted governmental discussions to ensure strategic energy interests are safeguarded. Jaishankar highlighted the initiation of stakeholder sensitization and dialogue with affected countries to address concerns about international tariffs and sanctions.
