In a solemn gathering on Saturday, senior leaders and dignitaries assembled in Chennai to pay homage to Nagaland Governor La Ganesan, who died on Friday evening. The nation joined in mourning as tributes flowed from across the country, highlighting his impactful public life in politics, literature, and governance.

Speaking on behalf of the Indian government, Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal described the late Ganesan as a close friend and dedicated leader. Ganesan succumbed to illness at 6:23 PM on August 15 at Apollo Hospital, Chennai. The Nagaland government announced a seven-day state mourning from August 16 to 22 in his honor.

Union Minister L Murugan praised Ganesan's political journey, from his beginnings in the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) to becoming Nagaland Governor, emphasizing his valuable service to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Tamil society. Murugan recognized Ganesan's contributions to the party's expansion in Tamil Nadu as a most significant loss.

Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio expressed profound respect for Ganesan, noting how he was held in high regard by the people of Nagaland. Ganesan, born in 1945 in Tanjore, Tamil Nadu, emerged from the RSS and joined the BJP in 1991, serving in multiple key roles, including the Organizing Secretary of the State BJP and Rajya Sabha member.

Ganesan's political journey saw him appointed as Manipur's Governor in 2021, later holding responsibility as the Governor of West Bengal in 2022, before assuming his role as Nagaland's Governor in February 2023. His dedication to his responsibilities left an indelible mark on all those he led, reflecting a life well-lived in service of the nation.
