In a significant stride towards India's green energy goals, the Ahmedabad-based Torrent Group inaugurated its latest green hydrogen plant in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, on Sunday. The ceremony was graced by state chief minister Yogi Adityanath, setting the stage for a new era in clean energy production.
The project is a collaborative effort of Torrent Power and Torrent Gas, boasting an impressive annual production capacity of 72,000 tonnes. This venture represents the first green hydrogen plant in the state and the country's largest project blending hydrogen with natural gas within the City Gas Distribution sector.
Green hydrogen, produced via renewable energy-driven electrolysis, will be integrated into Torrent Gas' existing City Gas Distribution infrastructure in Gorakhpur, with a concentration up to 2%. This blend will supply households, CNG stations, and industries, presenting a more sustainable energy solution and supporting India's commitment to reducing carbon emissions.
