On May 22, the Government of Assam, in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IITG), launched a significant MTech initiative to fortify technical capacity against the state's endemic water issues. The newly signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Water Resources Department (WRD) and IITG marks the beginning of a specialized two-year, part-time online Master of Technology programme focused on Flood and Water Resources Management.

This programme is meticulously crafted for in-service WRD engineers and those from other departments, aligning academic pursuits with professional obligations. An orientation at IIT Guwahati marked the first batch's commencement, attended by notable figures including Special Chief Secretary Syedain Abbasi, who emphasized the importance of strengthening sector-specific competencies through this course.

The curriculum spans a diverse array of subjects like Hydro-informatics, Sediment Transport, and Sustainable Solutions. Under the Assam Integrated River Basin Management Programme, supported by the World Bank, this collaboration underscores the state's dedication to evolving integrated, nature-based solutions, aiming to mitigate flood risks and bolster water management sustainability while building community resilience.
