Karnataka ministers have commended the Cabinet's recent decision to implement an internal reservation for 101 castes within the state, marking what they describe as a 'historical decision.' Minister KH Muniyappa emphasized the significance of this move, particularly for those who have campaigned for nearly 35 years for such recognition. The official announcement is expected to be made in the Assembly by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
Minister HC Mahadevappa noted that the decision follows a review of the Justice Committee report concerning modifications to the central caste list, ensuring that all interests are considered. Further clarity on the inclusion of 101 communities in the new grouping is anticipated.
Meanwhile, BJP MLA Bharath Shetty Y voiced concerns about the neglect of certain Scheduled Tribes and Scheduled Castes, calling for further justice and clearer governmental announcements. The decision is underpinned by the 1,766-page survey report from the Justice Das Commission, completed on August 4, which advocated for internal reservations for Scheduled Castes.
