Russia has announced its commitment to maintain oil supplies to India despite recent warnings from the United States. Russian embassy officials in New Delhi have indicated that Moscow is hopeful for upcoming trilateral discussions with India and China. This development follows U.S. President Donald Trump's decision to impose a 25% tariff on Indian goods exported to the U.S. from August 27, in response to India's continued purchase of Russian oil.

Russia's charge d'affaires in India, Roman Babushkin, emphasized the likelihood of India and Russia navigating these tariffs in their "national interests". Trade negotiations between India and the U.S. encountered obstacles over India's farming and dairy sectors, as well as its procurement of Russian oil. The U.S. has stated an intent to levy a total tariff of 50% on Indian imports.

Russia's Deputy Trade Commissioner Evgeny Griva has reiterated the profitability for India in buying Russian oil, highlighting the discounts Russia offers. The geopolitical dynamics have also been marked by potential high-level visits and dialogues aimed at fostering a 'greater Eurasian partnership,' signaling strategic efforts to strengthen alliances amid rising tensions.
