In a fiery address to the Legislative Assembly, Karnataka Opposition Leader R Ashoka lambasted the state government for its alleged mismanagement of ₹56,000 crore in tax revenue. Ashoka charged that these funds, collected through various tax hikes, have not been directed toward critical development initiatives, leaving essential projects unfulfilled.
Ashoka highlighted a pervasive issue of rising costs, outlining how the government has increased numerous taxes and fees across the state. This, he argued, constitutes a form of 'tax terrorism' that taxes Karnataka's citizens heavily without corresponding developmental benefits. From bus fares to garbage cess, the financial burden on the populace has multiplied.
Moreover, Ashoka painted a grim picture of infrastructure development, specifically in Bengaluru. He criticized the city's leadership for failing to maintain roads and manage public funds effectively. Ashoka emphasized that infrastructure woes, such as pothole-ridden streets and unfinished projects, have degraded Bengaluru's reputation as India's tech city.
