Ethiopia marked a historic milestone on Tuesday by unveiling Africa's largest dam, the Grand Renaissance Dam, as part of efforts to strengthen its economy and diminish dependence on fossil fuels.
The project is positioned to increase Ethiopia's electricity capacity by over 5,000 megawatts, supporting the nation's ban on gasoline-powered vehicles while facing opposition from Egypt over water distribution concerns.
With African leaders witnessing its inauguration, the dam highlights a new chapter in regional cooperation and infrastructure development, aligning with aspirations for continental energy connectivity under the African Union's vision.
