In a pressing appeal to the administration, PDP leader Iltija Mufti has sought the intervention of Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to address the growing crisis faced by the region's apple industry. The Srinagar-Jammu national highway's closure has left fruit-laden trucks stranded for weeks, causing considerable financial losses to growers.
Meeting with the Lieutenant Governor at the Raj Bhavan, Mufti emphasized the 'deep crisis' that has engulfed the industry, blaming recent heavy rains and floods for the prolonged road closure. This disruption has halted the movement of apple trucks, drawing criticism and protests from farmers frustrated by the lack of government action.
Mufti relayed assurances from Sinha that efforts would be made to resume smooth traffic flow on the highway. She also called for an interim financial package to support the impacted growers, emphasizing the vital role horticulture plays in sustaining Kashmir's economy amid ongoing regional challenges.
