The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) marked the third anniversary of the National Logistics Policy (NLP), a landmark initiative launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 17, 2022. Over the past three years, the NLP has spurred crucial reforms in digital integration, skill enhancement, policy alignment, and infrastructure development, significantly boosting efficiency and reducing logistics costs both domestically and internationally.
In sync with the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan, the NLP prioritizes strengthening soft infrastructure, advancing digitization, human resource development, and regulatory reforms. The policy targets reducing logistics costs to global standards and seeks to elevate India's position within the world's top 25 in the Logistics Performance Index (LPI) by 2030. National efforts include the Unified Logistics Interface Platform (ULIP), which has seamlessly integrated over 30 digital systems, facilitating a remarkable 160 crore digital transactions by August 2025.
The Logistics Ease Across Different States (LEADS) index plays a pivotal role in assessing logistics across regions. The LEADS index has been updated with new metrics and has bolstered India's rise in the World Bank's LPI ranking. Initiatives such as the Marketplace for MSMEs and the encouragement of green logistics reflect a commitment to innovation and sustainability.
