In a stirring tribute on Hyderabad Liberation Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded the pivotal role played by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel in integrating Hyderabad into the Indian Union post-Independence. Addressing a public rally in Dhar, Madhya Pradesh, Modi reminisced about the decisive 'iron-strong will' of Patel, India's first Home Affairs Minister, in peacefully annexing Hyderabad on September 17, 1948.
Modi lamented that for decades, the significance of this achievement remained uncelebrated, indirectly critiquing previous administrations for neglecting to honor Hyderabad Liberation Day. He asserted, 'Today, we immortalize this monumental event, celebrating with pride in Hyderabad,' stressing its importance in inspiring national dignity and pride.
Historically marked by a 'police action' termed Operation Polo, the event symbolizes Hyderabad's merger with India, marked by flag hoistings across the nation. In 2023, while some perceive it as liberation from Nizam rule, others see it as integration into India. Amidst the celebrations, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh unfurled the national flag, accompanied by other key political figures.
