In a bid to stimulate tourism and create self-employment opportunities, the Himachal Pradesh Government has unveiled the 'Chief Minister Tourism Startup Scheme in Hospitality Industry'. This groundbreaking initiative offers financial relief on loans taken for establishing new tourism units, such as homestays, as well as for expanding and upgrading existing ones.
The scheme provides an interest subsidy of 3% in urban areas, 4% in rural areas, and 5% in tribal areas on loans up to Rs. 2 crore, applicable for three years from the loan disbursement date. Available exclusively to bona fide Himachalis, this initiative highlights the strategic significance of homestays in making tourism more accessible, boosting longer stays in rural locales, and enhancing the overall state economy.
By focusing on enhancing cultural tourism in rural regions, the scheme not only opens new avenues for self-employment among Himachalis but also fosters authentic travel experiences. It encourages visitors to engage directly with local traditions and cuisine, providing a boon for local communities. As part of a larger effort to promote sustainable tourism, this initiative aligns with Himachal Pradesh's clean and picturesque image while contributing to 7.78% of the state's GDP, reflecting the government's dedication to sustainable economic development through tourism.
