The Delhi High Court on Thursday underscored the necessity for a transparent, policy-driven approach to government housing allotment. The court criticized reliance on administrative whims, as it assessed a plea from Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) seeking a designated bungalow for its leader, Arvind Kejriwal.

Presiding over the session, Justice Sachin Datta instructed high-level officials from the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and the Directorate of Estates to appear virtually on September 25. He expressed the need to understand the intricacies of the allotment process and determine the basis for prioritization amidst limited availability.

The court expressed concern over the lack of a standardized procedure, demanding justification of past allocations to ensure transparency. AAP's proposed allocation was contested, revealing it was previously assigned to Union Minister Pankaj Chaudhary. The court mandated an affidavit detailing the current policy and its application for review in the forthcoming session.
