Union Minister of State for Finance, Pankaj Chaudhary, on Monday, criticized the Congress party's previous attempts at implementing Goods and Services Tax (GST) reforms, citing a lack of public trust as the primary obstacle. Speaking to ANI, he underscored the BJP's role in establishing trust in the new tax system.
Chaudhary highlighted that Congress's efforts to introduce GST reforms a decade prior to 2014 foundered due to the states' mistrust of the then-central government. He attributed the BJP's success in enacting these reforms to the party's commitment to making systematic changes to ease public burdens over time.
The Union Minister detailed measures to disseminate awareness, stating, "BJP MPs and MLAs will actively engage with shopkeepers and the public to ensure the benefits of GST reforms are widely understood and implemented." He further elaborated on the reforms' impact, noting reductions in tax for agricultural products, life-saving drugs, and educational materials. Prime Minister Modi applauded these reforms as a 'double bonanza' during the festive season, celebrating their nationwide implementation.
