MDMK founder Vaiko on Saturday downplayed the significance of actor Vijay's rallies, attributing their large crowds to his cinematic appeal. "People gather for actors, but this doesn't translate into votes," Vaiko said, speaking to ANI. This comes as Vijay launches a political campaign targeting the ruling DMK.

In his speeches, Vijay has accused Chief Minister MK Stalin and his administration of corruption and hindering development in Tamil Nadu. Vaiko, however, criticized AIADMK's Edappadi K. Palaniswami for contradictory statements and expressed confidence in the DMK-led alliance's strength for the 2026 elections.

Continuing his rhetoric, Vijay criticized the state's infrastructure during a speech in Tiruvarur, describing development under DMK leadership as stagnant. He highlighted local infrastructure issues, such as inadequate roads and the long-delayed railway line project, blaming government inefficiency.
