In a troubling incident highlighting communal tensions, a student was allegedly assaulted at a Dandiya event held in a Hyderabad hotel. The altercation reportedly began after the student, Nehan Ali Khan, disclosed his name to attendees, leading to an attack by unknown assailants, said the Panjagutta police.
The attack came in the wake of Hindu organizations urging event organizers to restrict entry to specific communities, advocating for Aadhaar card checks and traditional markings such as a tilak for entry. Khan lodged a complaint resulting in a police investigation. The police have identified suspects named Laxman, Deepak, Bharath, and Chandra Kanth, and have registered a case under multiple sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
In an unrelated crime report, Telangana Police arrested a woman and her boyfriend on charges of murdering her two-year-old daughter. The woman's husband had reported them missing, leading to an investigation where the woman confessed to the crime. The child's skeletal remains have been recovered by authorities.
