The Dhauladhar mountains, part of the Lesser Himalayas in northern India, experienced mild snowfall and rain over Kangra Valley last night, cooling temperatures in Dharamshala as Himachal Pradesh anticipates the onset of winter.
Between June 20 and September 15, 2025, the Kangra district was hit hard by severe rainfall, resulting in the tragic loss of 55 lives. According to Deputy Commissioner Hemraj Bairwa, the estimated financial damage rose to Rs. 60,310.225 lakh, with significant livestock casualties and widespread structural damage.
Infrastructure across various departments suffered massive setbacks. The Public Works Department reported Rs. 29,808 lakh in damages, while the Irrigation and Drinking Water Department faced Rs. 26,315 lakh in losses. Meanwhile, the state electricity board reported damages worth Rs. 627 lakh, and additional substantial losses were recorded across other sectors.
