Nearly 6 million people in Haiti are expected to face acute food insecurity in the coming months. This crisis highlights how gang violence, mass displacement, and economic challenges are tightening the grip on this Caribbean nation, according to a recent assessment.
The Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) reported that around 5.8 million Haitians are suffering from acute food insecurity, with over 1.8 million in dire need of food assistance. Prolonged instability, economic shocks, and market disruptions contribute to this dire situation.
The World Food Programme (WFP) notes that consistent food aid has alleviated emergency hunger levels for approximately 200,000 Haitians. However, humanitarian agencies caution that without increased aid, conditions could worsen, especially with rising global fuel prices impacting agricultural and transport costs.
