The Rajya Sabha confirmed the re-election of Harivansh as Deputy Chairman on Friday, marking his third tenure in the role. Union Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda facilitated the motion for his re-election, which was approved via voice vote in the Upper House.
Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman CP Radhakrishnan formally announced Harivansh's re-election. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with House Leader JP Nadda and Opposition Leader Mallikarjun Kharge, observed the customary protocol of escorting Harivansh to his seat, greeting him warmly.
During a felicitation speech, Opposition Leader Mallikarjun Kharge commended Harivansh on his re-election, humorously acknowledging their proximity in the seating arrangement.
Prime Minister Modi lauded Harivansh's contributions to the Rajya Sabha, highlighting his ties to former Prime Minister Chandra Shekhar. Modi noted the significance of Harivansh's re-election coinciding with Chandra Shekhar's birth anniversary, underlining Harivansh's role in preserving the former leader's legacy.
Harivansh has co-authored 'Chandra Shekhar: The Last Icon of Ideological Politics' with Ravi Dutt Bajpai, celebrating the contributions of Chandra Shekhar, who led India from November 1990 to June 1991, as the head of a minority government supported by Congress.
